SANJIESAN COSPLAY / Wig partings

Read the parting from the view you will photograph

A parting that looks convincing in a front drawing may behave differently in a three-quarter portrait. Put the intended camera view beside the character reference before deciding on a wig base. You are choosing a visible arrangement, not merely the colour named in a product listing.

Name the visible hair direction

On an identified permitted reference, mark where the fringe starts, where it crosses the forehead and which side of the face remains open. Label wearer-left and wearer-right rather than relying on screen position. Separate details visible in the image from construction you cannot see. If different character versions disagree, choose the reference version deliberately before comparing products. Keep the original image unedited and put marks on a copy. A sketch of the intended portrait direction can show why the same fringe may need another available view for a fair comparison.

Inspect the base information before a styling plan

Look for the maker’s actual description of the parting, hairline and supported styling options. Ask for a relevant product view when the information is missing. Do not assume that every base can be restyled into any direction or that a polished reference hairstyle is the supplied state. Keep the product’s unstyled view and your desired result separate. A removable paper overlay can help explain the intended shape in a consultation, but it does not establish that the real fibres or construction can achieve it.

Check the face in the intended framing

During an appropriate fitting, compare the ordinary head position from the planned camera direction before considering a more elaborate pose. Notice whether a key eye or expression becomes hidden. Follow the actual wig’s instructions for any adjustment and stop an unsuitable or uncomfortable trial. Save an accepted view with the reference and base identifier. The aim is to make the hair and face work together in this look. A colour match alone cannot answer the question of whether the chosen parting gives you the portrait you want.
