SANJIESAN COSPLAY / BUYING GUIDE
Choose the card from the camera requirements, then estimate capacity
Memory-card listings mix capacity, card type and performance labels on one small product image. B&H’s SD directory provides separate fields for those properties. For a costume session, begin with the camera’s actual requirements and your intended recording mode, then use a transparent capacity estimate rather than treating an expensive card as a general improvement to the photographs.
Use the camera manual as the compatibility starting point
Find the supported card format, capacity restrictions and recording requirements for the exact camera and mode. Keep those requirements beside the candidate’s full model reference. An SD directory is a shopping route, not evidence that every camera uses SD cards or accepts every listed option. Check any reader or workflow requirement separately. If the manual specifies a particular criterion, compare that criterion directly instead of substituting a similar-looking number from the card packaging.
Make capacity arithmetic explicit
For an invented estimate, 600 images averaging 30 megabytes each total 18,000 megabytes before any other files. Those assumed file sizes are not a claim about your camera. Use actual representative files from the planned settings when available, and add separately planned video or duplicate formats. Treat the result as a starting estimate, with the camera’s displayed capacity and documented behaviour checked in the real workflow. A capacity label alone does not describe the entire session.
Compare the exact option and the file plan
Read the selected capacity’s own specifications and pack quantity; a familiar series name may cover several variants. Keep a plan for identifying used and unused cards and transferring files through the photographer’s agreed process. More cards do not automatically create a backup, and extra capacity does not resolve an unsuitable format. Stop shopping when compatibility remains unanswered. Ask the camera or card provider a precise model-specific question before committing to several speculative options.
