SANJIESAN COSPLAY / Decorative prop planning
Give the prop pair a viewpoint before calling it left or right
Left can mean the wearer’s left, the viewer’s left or the left side of a drawing. A pair of decorative costume components needs a more precise reference. Choose one convention for the project and make it visible, while preserving any established differences between the two objects rather than assuming that a pair must be perfectly mirrored.
Choose the reference person and view
Draw a simple front-view figure or appropriate object outline and write whether labels refer to the wearer or the viewer. Add an unmistakable front marker. Apply the same convention to the working pictures and parts list. If existing maker information uses a different convention, retain its original labels and write the mapping explicitly rather than silently renaming the parts and leaving two contradictory systems in circulation.
Check what actually differs between the pair
Compare outer shape, motif orientation and any documented position-specific detail. A deliberately asymmetric design should not be corrected into a mirrored pair for convenience. Use two clearly labelled photographs if a single front image hides the relevant difference. Keep graphic direction separate from physical placement: a symbol can face one way on a component that belongs on the opposite side of the wearer. State both facts where they matter.
Use the convention at the handoff
Before the agreed photograph or fitting, let the responsible person identify each real component using the labelled reference. Keep any physical labelling consistent with the maker’s appropriate guidance and avoid altering finished surfaces casually. If someone cannot distinguish the pair, improve the reference before proceeding. The useful outcome is not an elaborate code but an arrangement that a new helper can understand without guessing or repeatedly turning the wearer around.
