SANJIESAN COSPLAY / BUYING GUIDE
Choose prop foam with three separate questions
A sheet described as high density still leaves practical questions unanswered: how thick is it, how much usable area arrives and does the maker recommend it for your intended decorative part? Keep those questions separate before comparing packs or ordering enough material for an entire costume.
Read thickness and density as different specifications
Cosplayshop’s high-density EVA page lists thickness and size as separate choices and discusses density separately from thickness. Use the actual selected option’s information rather than assuming every grey foam sheet is equivalent. Ask what a density code means if its units or definition are unclear. Keep the intended component in the question: a small raised decoration and a large unsupported form are different requirements. Do not treat a material category as evidence that it can safely bear a load or replace a reviewed construction plan.
Lay out the pieces before counting sheets
Use the permitted pattern’s actual dimensions and a paper sheet outline matching the documented usable area. Include mirrored or repeated pieces deliberately and follow the design’s specified allowances. Two shapes fitting by area alone does not prove they can be arranged within the sheet’s width and length. Mark gaps and any direction that matters to the design rather than assuming all offcuts remain useful. This is a purchasing layout exercise; it does not give cutting, heating, adhesive or finishing instructions for the physical material.
Resolve a representative part before a bulk order
Ask the supplier about a suitable sample and the product guidance for the intended use. Have a competent maker evaluate unresolved construction questions using the actual material information. Do not purchase several thicknesses simply to discover later that another component was required. Keep the chosen product, option and sheet dimensions in the materials list, then check the present destination, freight and transaction conditions. A clear comparison may justify a modest initial quantity rather than a large speculative order. The goal is a documented material choice for the build, not a promise that a page photograph guarantees the final prop.
