SANJIESAN COSPLAY / Fitting photographs

Give each fitting photograph a question to answer

A fitting folder can contain many attractive photographs while leaving the maker unable to see a simple hem or closure question. Decide what each view should answer. A small set of well-labelled images can be more useful than a large selection of poses chosen only for their dramatic effect.

Use a plain overall view for silhouette

Choose an ordinary, comfortable position and show the whole relevant garment without an accessory hiding its shape. Keep camera direction and distance reasonably consistent between comparison images. Describe the question in the filename or note, such as outer hem in front view. Avoid using a stylised angle as though it supplied a neutral size comparison. Do not alter the body or garment digitally in a photograph meant to support fitting decisions. A polished portrait and a practical fitting view have different purposes and should remain identifiable.

Give a junction its context and detail

For a collar, cuff or closure, show where the issue sits in the complete garment, then add a closer image if needed. Point to a location without diagnosing an unseen construction cause. Keep the wearer’s privacy and comfort in mind when choosing what to share; an image can be cropped appropriately while still retaining the necessary garment context. If the maker needs a measurement or another view, ask for the method rather than supplying a guessed number derived from the photograph. A visible question is a good starting point, not a complete alteration instruction.

Include the ordinary use that matters

If sitting is part of the intended session, use an appropriate comfortable seated view to discuss the garment with the maker. Do not push through discomfort or force movement to complete a photo list. Label the state of the fitting, including temporary pieces, so the recipient knows what remains provisional. Keep feedback tied to the actual image version. After a change, repeat the relevant view under comparable conditions. The small set succeeds when it helps the wearer and maker understand the same problem without mistaking attractive staging for an assessment of fit.
